What it is
Insight Partners is an investment firm focused on software. As of 31 December 2025 it reports over $90 billion in regulatory assets under management[1]. Regulatory assets under management is the figure an investment firm reports to regulators, used as a measure of the assets it manages. It has invested in more than 900 companies worldwide, and more than 55 of its portfolio companies have reached an IPO[1]. A portfolio that large, with that many listings, is the simplest way to place the firm: it invests in software at a scale where the number of individual bets is high and outcomes are spread across many companies rather than concentrated in a few.
Where it comes from
The firm dates its software investing to 1995, when it bet that software would change the game[1]. It says it has more than 30 years of operating and investing in software behind it[1]. The emphasis in that claim is on focus: rather than spreading across sectors, the firm built its practice around one, and stayed in it long enough to work through several technology cycles.
How it invests
Insight describes three pillars — scale, focus and experience — and applies them across early ScaleUp, growth and late stage investing[1].
The three stage labels describe where a company sits in its life. A ScaleUp company usually already has a product and paying customers and is trying to grow quickly; growth-stage investing puts money into companies that are expanding sales and operations; late-stage investing comes closer to the point where a company is large, mature or heading toward a listing. A firm that works across all three can stay with a company for years rather than joining for a single round.
The experience pillar is delivered through people as much as through capital. Insight Onsite, the firm's group of growth operators, helps portfolio companies build core capabilities[1]. Operators are usually practitioners — people who have run sales, marketing, hiring or product inside companies themselves — rather than outside consultants. The firm says its operators are usually a CEO's first call and are available around the clock to advise[1].
In the portfolio
Individual relationships show how this works in practice. Thomas Krane, a managing director at Insight Partners, sat on StackBlitz's board as a board director[2]. Insight Partners is also named among the significant investors in Anthropic's Series F, a $13 billion round[3]. A board seat and a large financing are two different kinds of presence: one is a governance and advice role at a single company, the other is participation in a round of that size.
What it adds up to
Put together, the firm sits at the large end of software investing: a long history in one sector, a portfolio counted in the hundreds, a team of operators who work directly with founders, and the ability to invest across stages from early ScaleUp to late stage[1]. For founders, that combination — capital plus people who have done the operating job before — is the offer. For the wider industry, a firm of this size is one of the routes by which capital reaches software companies at many different points in their lives[1]. The three pillars it names, scale, focus and experience, are essentially a description of that route: enough money to invest across stages, one sector to specialise in, and staff who have run the functions founders are hiring for[1].
