Le Chat (Vibe)

Le Chat is Mistral AI's assistant, launched in beta on 26 February 2024. It gained web search, a Pro tier, Deep Research and other features over 2024 and 2025, and on 28 May 2026 it was merged into the Vibe agent.

What it is

Le Chat is the chat assistant of Mistral AI. It was launched on 26 February 2024, alongside the Mistral Large model, initially as a beta "assistant demonstrator" that exposed the company's models to the public. [1][2] An assistant demonstrator is a public interface that lets people try a company's models directly, without building their own software.

Origins

The Le Chat launch is listed in Mistral's API changelog for 26 February 2024, alongside Mistral Large and Mistral Small. [1] At launch Le Chat exposed Mistral Large, and Mistral used that model to build the system-level moderation of the assistant. [2]

Feature history

On 18 November 2024 Le Chat added web search with citations, a Canvas editing workspace, document and image understanding powered by Pixtral Large, image generation with Black Forest Labs' Flux Pro, and shareable agents. These features were free during the beta. [3]

On 6 February 2025 Mistral relaunched Le Chat with iOS and Android apps. The relaunch added a Pro tier from $14.99 per month, "Flash Answers" at up to about 1,000 words per second, a code interpreter, and Flux Ultra image generation. [4]

On 17 July 2025 Le Chat gained Deep Research in preview, a voice mode powered by Voxtral, a "Think" mode powered by the Magistral reasoning model, Projects, and image editing with Black Forest Labs' tools. [5]

On 22 May 2026 Mistral Medium 3.5 became Le Chat's default model. [7]

The merge with Vibe

On 28 May 2026 Mistral announced "Le Chat is now Vibe". The new product uses one agent and one licence across work and code. It has a Work Mode and a Code Mode for remote coding agents. [6]

The plans announced with it were Free, Pro at $14.99 per month, Team at $24.99 per user per month, and Enterprise. [6]

Where it fits

Le Chat shows how Mistral AI offered its models to the public as well as to developers. Later features drew on models from the company's own line-up, such as Pixtral Large, Magistral and Voxtral, as well as image tools from Black Forest Labs. [3][5]
