What it is

Walker S2 is the latest generation industrial humanoid robot from UBTECH, launched in 2025 [1]. It is a full-size industrial humanoid — a bipedal, human-shaped machine designed for factory and logistics work rather than for demonstration or research.

A robot that swaps its own batteries

The feature most associated with Walker S2 is its hot-swappable self-battery-swap system. According to China Automotive News, the robot can change its own battery in 3 minutes, which allows it to keep working around the clock rather than being taken offline for charging [2].

The swap is not a simple mechanical exchange. The system relies on dual-battery power balancing, so that one battery can carry the load while the other is being replaced; a standardised battery bay, so that packs are interchangeable; and two-arm coordinated swapping, in which the robot's own arms carry out the removal and insertion of the pack [2]. Taken together, these pieces let a humanoid robot manage its own energy supply — a practical requirement for any machine expected to hold a shift on a production line.

Production and delivery

UBTECH said it began mass production and delivery of Walker S2 in November 2025 [1]. Shanghai Securities News reported that the first several hundred units entered mass production delivery and would be deployed in batches to automotive manufacturing, smart manufacturing, smart logistics and embodied-AI data centres [3]. Embodied-AI data centres are facilities where the physical manipulation data collected by robots is used to train the models that control them.

Capacity figures reported by China Automotive News put monthly output at more than 300 units, with full-year deliveries expected to top 500 units [2].

Customers and partners

UBTECH's industrial relationships give a sense of where these robots are intended to go. The company has partnerships with BYD, Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor, Geely, FAW-Volkswagen Qingdao, Audi FAW, BAIC BJEV, Foxconn and SF Express [3] — a list that spans carmakers, a contract manufacturer and a logistics firm.

On the commercial side, China Automotive News reported that UBTECH signed a humanoid robot sales contract worth more than 50 million yuan with a Chinese large-model company, to be delivered within 2025 [2]. The buyer is described as a large-model company, which links the order to the growing overlap between language-model developers and embodied AI.

Where it sits

Walker S2 matters less as a single machine than as a marker of a shift: a full-size humanoid robot moving from prototypes and pilot programmes into counted production and paid delivery. The combination of self-swapping batteries, stated monthly capacity in the hundreds and named manufacturing partners describes an attempt to treat the humanoid as industrial equipment rather than a showcase.
