What it is

Claude Haiku 4.5 is a large language model developed by Anthropic and released on 15 October 2025 under the API identifier claude-haiku-4-5, with the snapshot claude-haiku-4-5-20251001. It was available to all users, including on the Claude apps and in Claude Code.[1][3]

Origins

Anthropic positioned Claude Haiku 4.5 as a drop-in replacement for Claude Haiku 3.5 and Sonnet 4. In other words, it was meant to take over the jobs those models did, without changes to how applications call it.[1]

According to Wikipedia, its training data ran to February 2025.[4]

Main features

Anthropic said the model offered coding performance similar to Claude Sonnet 4, at one-third of the cost and more than twice the speed.[1] Its price was $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens.[1]

On SWE-bench Verified, a coding benchmark, the model scored 73.3%, averaged over 50 trials.[1][2] Anthropic said it surpassed Sonnet 4 at computer use, the ability to operate a computer interface, and matched it on coding, computer use and agent tasks.[1][2]

The model was released under AI Safety Level 2 (ASL-2) protections, a lower level than the ASL-3 protections used for Sonnet 4.5 and Opus 4.1. In Anthropic's automated alignment assessment, it showed a lower rate of misaligned behaviour than both of those models. Anthropic called it its “safest model yet” by that measure.[1]

The model was available in the Claude apps, Claude Code, the Claude API, Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud Vertex AI.[1]

Benchmark scores are the share of tasks a model completes correctly on a fixed test. A score from one test cannot be compared directly with a score from another, so a figure is most useful alongside the price and speed at which the model is sold.

Its place in development

Claude Haiku 4.5 became the recommended replacement for the retired Claude Haiku 3.5 and Claude Haiku 3, and Anthropic has said its retirement is not sooner than 15 October 2026.[3]

Claude Haiku 5.5 succeeded it on 7 October 2026.[4]
