What it is

Gemini 3.6 Flash is a Gemini model that Google released on 21 July 2026. The release was announced in a post by Tulsee Doshi, and Google described the model as its "workhorse model" — the one expected to carry the bulk of everyday work rather than top the lineup. The same post said it improved on coding, knowledge work and multimodal performance.[1][2]

Measured against 3.5 Flash

Google compared the new model with 3.5 Flash on four benchmarks. It scored 49% against 37% on DeepSWE, 63.9% against 49.7% on MLE-Bench, 83.0% against 78.4% on OSWorld-Verified, and 1421 against 1349 on GDPval-AA v2.[1] These are the figures Google published. Benchmark scores are good for comparing two versions of a model on the same tasks, but they say less about how a model behaves on the particular work a given team has.

Fewer output tokens

On the Artificial Analysis Index the model used 17% fewer output tokens than 3.5 Flash, and on some benchmarks up to 65% fewer.[1] Output tokens are the units of text a model generates, and API bills are usually charged per token, so producing the same answer in fewer tokens lowers cost and often shortens response time.

Computer use as a built-in tool

Computer use became a built-in client-side tool in the Gemini API and Gemini Enterprise.[1] Tools are how a model acts on the world outside the conversation: the model asks for an action and the software around it carries the action out. Making computer use a built-in client-side tool means the calling application runs that loop itself, with the model issuing the steps, instead of the developer assembling the plumbing from scratch.

Where it is available

The model shipped in the Gemini API, Antigravity, Gemini Enterprise and the Gemini app, where users pick "3.6 Flash" from the model list.[1][4] Google's release notes for 21 July 2026 said 3.6 Flash was being brought to all Gemini app users worldwide.[4]

Pricing

Launch pricing was $1.50 per 1 million input tokens and $7.50 per 1 million output tokens.[1] The pricing page later listed an introductory rate of $0.75 and $3.75 through 31 December 2026.[3] Two other tiers had their own schedules. Batch and Flex pricing was $0.375 per 1 million input tokens and $1.875 per 1 million output tokens through 31 December 2026, rising to $0.75 and $3.75 from 1 January 2027,[3] while Priority pricing was $1.35 per 1 million input tokens and $6.75 per 1 million output tokens through 31 December 2026, rising to $2.70 and $13.50 from 1 January 2027.[3] Such tiers generally trade price against how quickly a request is served or whether it is batched.

What the release signalled

The same post said that pre-training for Gemini 4 had begun, on what Google called its most ambitious run yet.[1]
