Anthropic launches Claude Code on the web

On 20 October 2025 Anthropic launched Claude Code on the web, a research preview that lets developers hand coding tasks from a browser to Claude, running on Anthropic-managed cloud infrastructure.

Background

Claude Code is Anthropic's tool for agentic software development, in which Claude carries out programming tasks on a developer's behalf. The web version brought the tool into the browser.

What happened

On 20 October 2025 Anthropic launched Claude Code on the web as a research preview for Pro and Max users.[1] A research preview is an early version offered to a limited group so that feedback can shape it before general release. Developers connect GitHub repositories and delegate tasks from the browser. The tasks run on cloud infrastructure that Anthropic manages.[1]

Key details

Several tasks can run in parallel, and sessions can open pull requests automatically. A pull request is a proposed set of code changes that a team reviews before merging them into a project.[1]

Each task runs in an isolated sandbox with restrictions on network and filesystem access. Git access goes through a secure proxy.[1]

Claude Code also arrived in the iOS app as an early preview.[1]

Impact

Cloud sessions later became generally available. They were offered to Pro, Max, Ultra and Team users, and to some Enterprise seats.[1]
