Background
TRAE, ByteDance's AI coding product, first offered its SOLO agent inside the TRAE IDE. On 31 March 2026 TRAE launched a standalone SOLO agent in beta, available on desktop and web, beyond the IDE.[1]
Mobile availability means the same agent can be used away from a desk, which suits short tasks such as checking a report or reviewing a draft. Making one agent available across desktop, web and phone is a design choice that keeps the same tool close to wherever the user works.
In this context a workspace is a single environment where an agent can read files, work with documents and data, and keep track of a task across several steps. Product managers and analysts spend much of their time on specifications, spreadsheets and reports, which are the kinds of material the non-coding mode was designed to handle.
What happened
The standalone SOLO had two modes. Code mode was for software work, and a “More Than Coding” mode was for documents, data analysis, reports and research.[1] On 9 June 2026 TRAE renamed the standalone SOLO as TRAE Work. It is described as an AI workspace for product managers, analysts, marketers and others.[2]
Key details
TRAE Work is available on desktop, web and mobile.[2] TRAE describes it as a workspace for people in roles such as product management, analysis and marketing, so its scope extends beyond programming.[2]
TRAE IDE remained the product for developers. It keeps two modes, IDE mode and SOLO mode.[2]
The pricing change came earlier. From 24 February 2026 TRAE moved its membership to token-based plans, which range from $3 per month on the Lite plan to $100 per month on the Ultra plan.[3]
Impact
The split separates two groups of users. Developers keep an IDE for writing and running code, while TRAE Work is aimed at people who do not primarily write code. The rename also extends the SOLO agent from coding into a general workspace, available on mobile as well as on desktop and web.
