What it is

Kuaishou Technology (快手科技) is a Chinese short-video and live-streaming company headquartered in Haidian District, Beijing. It runs the Kuaishou app, a short-video social platform, and has become a major company in both content and commercial video. Its AI work includes the Kling (可灵) video generation model.[1][8]

Origins

The company began in March 2011 as GIF Kuaishou, a GIF-sharing app, and later became a short-video social platform. Its founders were Su Hua (宿华) and Cheng Yixiao (程一笑).[1][2][3] In March 2017 the company closed a US$350 million round led by Tencent, an early investor.[1][2]

The company was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on 5 February 2021, under stock code 1024. Its market value passed HK$1 trillion on the first day of trading.[1]

Leadership changed in 2021 and 2023. Su Hua stepped down as CEO in October 2021, and Cheng Yixiao became CEO on 29 October 2021. On 29 October 2023 Cheng Yixiao also became chairman.[2][3]

Main features

Kuaishou's revenue was RMB 142.8 billion in 2025, up 12.5% from RMB 126.9 billion in 2024. In 2025 the Kuaishou app averaged 410.2 million daily active users and 724.6 million monthly active users.[5]

The company became a constituent of Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index, an announcement made in November 2024.[4]

In 2024 the company presented several AI models: the KwaiYii (快意) large language model with 175 billion parameters, the Kolors (可图) text-to-image model, and the Kling video generation model.[6][7]

Kling was launched in June 2024. It reached an annualized revenue run rate of US$240 million in December 2025, and generated over RMB 850 million of revenue in the second quarter of 2026. Management calls Kling the company's second growth curve.[8][9][10]

Other AI work named in the company's 2025 annual results includes the open-sourced Keye-671B multimodal LLM, OneRec-V2, OneSearch and the CodeFlicker coding tool. CodeFlicker generated over 40% of new code at the company.[5]

The company employed 24,718 people in 2024.[1]

Its place in the field

Kuaishou's AI work is tied to its consumer video business, so its models are closely connected to creation tools and to the platform's own users. The Kling line is the clearest case: it started as a feature for generating video and grew into a product with its own revenue line, which the company now describes as a second growth curve beside its core business.[8][9]

The company's ownership also has a state element. The China Internet Investment Fund, which is controlled by the Cyberspace Administration of China (国家互联网信息办公室), holds a golden share in the company.[1]
