What Kling 2.1 is

Kling 2.1 is one release in the Kling family of video generation models from the Chinese short-video company Kuaishou. It debuted at the end of May 2025.[1] Models of this kind take a written description — or a single still image — and produce a short video clip; the text path is usually called text-to-video, the image path image-to-video. Internally such systems learn from large numbers of video clips what frames tend to follow one another, then generate new frames a piece at a time while trying to keep motion and appearance consistent from start to finish.

Three tiers

The series shipped in three versions: a Standard mode at 720p, a High Quality mode at 1080p, and a premium 2.1 Master edition.[1] The tiers differed by more than resolution. At launch the Standard (720p) tier supported image-to-video only, with text-to-video to follow later,[4] while the Master edition supported text-to-video from the start.[4] Kuaishou said the premium 2.1 Master Edition delivers superior motion performance.[1]

Pricing

Prices were quoted in credits (灵感值). At launch a 5-second 720p Standard clip cost 20 credits, a 5-second 1080p High Quality clip 35, and a 5-second 1080p Master clip 100; the prices matched those of the previous versions at the equivalent tiers.[4] Kuaishou described the 2.1 series as designed for cost-effectiveness and efficient content generation.[1]

What Kuaishou said changed

Kuaishou said it improved motion, physical simulation and semantic responsiveness.[2] In its quarterly results announcement the company described the 2.1 series as launching in May 2025 with comprehensive quality improvements, including better motion performance.[2] The three terms describe different failure modes of generated video: motion performance is about how natural and stable movement looks; physical simulation is about whether objects behave as everyday physics would suggest, such as something falling, cloth folding or liquid pouring; semantic responsiveness is about how closely the clip follows what the prompt actually asked for.

Business context

Kling revenue surpassed RMB 250 million in the second quarter of 2025.[2] By June 2025 the Kling API served more than 10,000 domestic and overseas enterprise clients and developers,[1] which places the 2.1 release in a period when the model was being sold both to individual users through credits and to companies through an interface.

Place in the series

Kling 2.1 was superseded by Kling 2.5 Turbo at the end of September 2025,[3] roughly four months after the 2.1 debut. That short gap is a reminder of how quickly video generation models were being reissued at the time: a numbered release could be the current top of a product line and then hand over to a successor within a single quarter, with each version marketed on incremental gains in motion quality, prompt adherence and price per clip.
