Kling 1.6

What it is

Kling 1.6 is a version of Kling, the video generation model from the Chinese short-video company Kuaishou. It was released in December 2024, the fourth quarter of that year, as an upgrade to Kling's video generation model.^[1][2][4] In Kuaishou's own description, the release brought upgraded video generation capabilities and significantly enhanced effects.^[4]

A video generation model takes a written description and produces video from it. Work on such models is usually judged on two things: whether the output follows the instruction, and how the frames themselves look. The changes Kuaishou listed for Kling 1.6 fall on both sides of that split.

What changed

On the control side, Kuaishou said the model responded better to text descriptions of motion, of actions unfolding over time, and of camera movement.^[1] This is the part of a prompt that says what should move, in what order, and how the shot should be framed as it changes. Getting it right is a matter of turning a sentence about an event into a sequence of frames that shows that event happening.

On the image side, the company pointed to four areas of improvement: style consistency, colour accuracy, lighting dynamics and detail rendering.^[1] Style consistency concerns whether the look stays stable across the video rather than drifting from shot to shot; colour accuracy concerns whether colours come out as intended; lighting dynamics concerns how light and shadow behave as things move; detail rendering concerns how much fine structure survives in the frame.

Released alongside an app

In the same quarter, a standalone Kling AI app was launched.^[1] That put the model in front of users directly rather than only through other surfaces. Kuaishou said the user base of Kling AI had grown at an accelerated pace as its functionality improved.^[1]

The commercial picture

In its fourth-quarter and full-year 2024 results, Kuaishou reported that by February 2025 Kling had earned more than RMB 100 million in cumulative revenue since monetization began.^[1] The figure is cumulative, covering the whole period in which the product had been charged for, not a single quarter.

Where it sits in the line

Kuaishou's CEO said Kling had been continuously iterated since its launch in June 2024.^[1] Kling 1.6 was one step in that sequence, and the company said the version maintained its world-leading technological advantages.^[1] A March 2025 press release described Kling AI 1.6 as having been officially launched in December 2024, with upgraded video generation capabilities and significantly enhanced effects.^[4]

The version did not stay current for long. Kling 1.6 was succeeded by Kling 2.0 in April 2025.^[3] Read together, the record describes a model line that was revised on a short cycle: a launch in June 2024, an upgrade in December 2024 shipped with a standalone app in the same quarter, revenue past RMB 100 million by February 2025, and a further major version in April 2025.
