ByteDance Seed releases the Seedream 3.0 image model

Background

Seedream is the image generation model family of ByteDance Seed, the research team inside ByteDance. A text-to-image model creates a picture from a written description. Models of this kind are judged on how closely the picture follows the prompt, how accurate any text inside the picture is, how attractive it looks and how faithful it is to the request.

What happened

On 15 April 2025 ByteDance Seed posted the Seedream 3.0 technical report to arXiv.^[1] Seedream 3.0 is a Chinese-English bilingual image generation foundation model. A foundation model is a large general-purpose model that can be applied to many tasks, here producing images from text in either language.^[1]

Improvements

Compared with Seedream 2.0, the report says Seedream 3.0 improves in prompt alignment, which is how closely the image matches the description, and in Chinese text rendering, which is the accuracy of Chinese characters drawn inside the picture. It also improves in aesthetics and fidelity.^[1]

The model outputs native high-resolution images of up to 2K. Native means the picture is generated at that size, rather than being produced smaller and enlarged afterwards.^[1]

Speed and training data

A new acceleration method gave a 4x to 8x speedup without losing image quality.^[1] Acceleration here means the model can produce each image in less time, which matters when a service generates many images.

The training data was doubled using defect-aware training and dual-axis data sampling.^[1]

Image models of this kind are trained on large collections of images paired with captions, so the quality and accuracy of those captions shapes how closely the model follows a prompt.

Significance

For a bilingual model, the handling of Chinese text inside an image is a direct test, because a picture with garbled characters is not usable. The report puts that improvement alongside gains in aesthetics and speed, which together describe what the team was aiming for in this release.
