Google launches the Antigravity agentic development platform

On 18 November 2025 Google released Antigravity, a free public preview agentic development platform for macOS, Windows and Linux, in which agents work across the editor, terminal and browser.

What was announced

On 18 November 2025, Google launched Antigravity alongside Gemini 3 and described it as an agentic development platform.[2] It was released as a free public preview for macOS, Windows and Linux.[1]

An agentic development platform is one built around agents: programs that are given a goal and then take sequences of actions on their own — reading files, writing code, running commands — rather than only answering one question at a time in a chat box. Antigravity's agents can work across the editor, terminal and browser.[2] Those three surfaces cover much of ordinary software work: writing and editing code, running builds and commands, and looking at the result in a web page. Letting one agent move between them means it does not have to hand a task back to the user every time it crosses from one tool to another.

What ships with it

The platform shipped with Gemini 3 Pro, the Gemini 2.5 Computer Use model and Nano Banana.[2] A computer use model is one trained to operate a graphical interface — reading a screen and issuing clicks and keystrokes — which is the kind of capability an agent needs when the thing it must control is a browser rather than a command line.

Antigravity also made models from outside Google available at launch: Claude Sonnet 4.5 and GPT-OSS.[3] A development platform that lets users pick among competing model families is a different pitch from a product tied to a single vendor's models, and it puts Antigravity in the same conversation as other agent-oriented coding tools that support several providers.

Early reception

Antigravity was free, public and launched the same day as Gemini 3, and the first days were uneven. Reviewers reported quota exhaustion and "model provider overload" errors.[3] Such errors point at the plumbing behind an agentic tool: every agent step is a model call, so a single task can consume many times the requests of an ordinary chat session, and demand that spikes on launch day strains both the platform's own limits and the capacity it borrows from model providers.

Why it matters

Antigravity marks Google shipping a first-party environment built around agents rather than around a single model endpoint. Three details define its position. It arrived on macOS, Windows and Linux as a free preview, which lowers the cost of trying it.[1] It bundled a coding model, a computer use model and an image-oriented model in one package.[2] And it accepted third-party models alongside Google's own.[3]

What the launch does not settle is reliability under load. Quota limits and provider overload errors in the opening days are a reminder that an agentic platform is judged not only on which models it offers, but on whether an agent can finish a multi-step task without stalling.[3]
