Devin is an AI software engineer built by Cognition and announced on 12 March 2024. It plans and carries out engineering tasks using a shell, a code editor and a browser inside a sandboxed environment.

Claude Code is Anthropic's agentic coding tool. It was announced on 24 February 2025 as a research preview that works in the terminal, and it now runs in many places, from the terminal and IDEs to the web and Slack.

Codex is OpenAI's software-engineering agent. It started in 2025 as an open-source terminal tool and a cloud agent inside ChatGPT, and later grew into a desktop app with millions of weekly users.

WorkBuddy is Tencent's desktop AI agent for workplace tasks. Launched in March 2026, it was later offered to global users with remote task access and standard tool connections.

Amp is a coding agent and development environment created by an independent agent research lab, marketed for frontier work and used by everyone from indie developers to very large engineering organizations.
