Biren lists on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange

Biren Technology listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange's main board on 2 January 2026, drawing 23 cornerstone investors to its share offering, with its market value briefly passing HK$100 billion on the first trading day.

Background

Biren Technology is a Chinese chip company that designs graphics processing units (GPUs). It is commonly grouped with Moore Threads, MetaX and Enflame as one of China's four leading GPU startups[1]. GPUs were originally built to render graphics; because they are good at doing many arithmetic operations in parallel, they became the workhorse hardware for training and running AI models. Designing such chips is expensive and slow, so companies in this field usually raise several private funding rounds before they turn to the public market.

An initial public offering (IPO) is the first time a company sells shares to the general public on a stock exchange. For a chip company, a listing raises money and also submits the business to public pricing, with a share price that moves every day.

The offering

Biren opened its Hong Kong IPO subscription on 22 December 2025 and listed on the main board on 2 January 2026 under the code 6082.HK[1].

The offering was 247.69 million shares. About 5% went to the Hong Kong public tranche, aimed at individual investors, and 95% to the international placing, aimed at institutions, at an indicative price of HK$17.00 to HK$19.60 per share[1]. At that range the company expected gross proceeds of HK$4.21 billion to HK$4.85 billion[1].

The deal also relied on cornerstone investors: investors who commit before listing to take a set amount of shares at the offer price and accept a lock-up period, which gives the rest of the market a signal about the deal. Biren brought in 23 cornerstone investors, including Qiming Venture Partners, Ping An Life, LionGlobal, Shanghai Greenwoods, Prudential Singapore, UBS AM Singapore, Taikang Life, Digital China, Southern Asset Management and Fullgoal, subscribing for HK$2.899 billion in total[1].

First trading day

On its first trading day Biren's market value briefly passed HK$100 billion, and the public tranche was reported to be more than 2,300 times oversubscribed[2]. An oversubscription multiple compares the number of shares investors ask for with the number actually on offer; a multiple above 2,300 means demand from the public was far larger than the shares available to them.

What the money is for

Biren said the proceeds would fund development of intelligent computing hardware and its software platform, commercialisation of its solutions, and working capital[1]. That list describes the shape of the business fairly directly: the chips themselves, the software that makes the chips usable by programmers and customers, and the work of selling both.

Before the listing

Before it reached the public market, Biren was financed mainly by private investors. By July 2025 the company had completed seven funding rounds, the last a Series D that included BYD[2]. Rounds like these are how chip startups pay for long development cycles, since designing a new processor and getting it into production takes years before meaningful revenue arrives.

Why it matters

The listing put one of China's four leading GPU startups onto a public exchange, where its valuation is now set daily by outside shareholders rather than by private rounds[1]. It also gave outside investors, including the 23 cornerstone institutions, a formal stake in a company whose stated plans run from hardware and software development to commercialisation[1]. For readers following the chip industry, the deal is a concrete record of how a Chinese GPU startup is priced by the public market, and of how much demand such an offering can attract.
