What it is
Claude Opus 4.7 is a large language model developed by Anthropic and released on 16 April 2026 under the API identifier claude-opus-4-7 as a generally available model. Its price was $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens, unchanged from Opus 4.6.[1]
Origins
Anthropic said the model was less broadly capable than Claude Mythos Preview. Its cyber capabilities were intentionally less advanced, and Anthropic experimented with differentially reducing them during training.[1][4]
Main features
The model added an xhigh effort level between high and max. Claude Code's default effort became xhigh on all plans.[1]
It accepts images up to 2,576 pixels on the long edge, about 3.75 megapixels, which is more than three times the size accepted by earlier Claude models.[1]
Anthropic introduced an updated tokenizer, the component that splits text into tokens. It maps the same input to roughly 1.0 to 1.35 times as many tokens. Anthropic's pricing documentation says it produces about 30% more tokens for the same text, which affects the real cost of a request.[1][2]
Partners reported results. Above 70% on CursorBench, against 58% for Opus 4.6. 98.5% on XBOW's visual-acuity benchmark, against 54.5%. And 90.9% on BigLaw Bench.[1]
Task budgets launched in public beta. Claude Code gained the /ultrareview command and auto mode for Max users.[1]
Safeguards
The model was the first to test new safeguards that automatically detect and block prohibited or high-risk cybersecurity requests. Anthropic also launched a Cyber Verification Program for legitimate security work.[1]
Wikipedia reports user complaints about over-refusals and high token use after launch.[5]
Its place in development
Claude Design, launched by Anthropic Labs the next day, was powered by Opus 4.7.[6]
The model is available on all Claude products, the Claude API, Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI and Microsoft Foundry. Its retirement is not sooner than 16 April 2027.[1][3]
